Introduction

How it all began

My brother bought a brown Citroën DS 20 back in 2006, ran it for a summer and my son fell in love with it at the tender age of 17. As a student of design, he had to have it and being one whose instinct is to celebrate and nurture enthusiasm, I said 'As long as you buy a welder and learn how to use it, you can restore it in my garage'. In 2007, we trailored it from North Wales to Norfolk, stripped it of all its panels, shook our heads and went for a cup of tea. Many cups of tea. After nights and months spent starring at what now filled my garage and little activity from the student of design, I grudgingly came to the conclusion that beloved space would only ever return if I bought a welder, learnt to weld and cracked on.

I've learnt many a lesson over the past 16 years, not least that one should never trust one's instincts. It just seems right and proper that as we near completion, I share this journey so that an uncertain few may have their misty eye's opened just in time but that a lucky few might decide to also 'crack-on' with their share of the enthusiasm that has kept this project alive.
